Dex is, essentially, Deus Ex: Human Revolution as a 2D Metroidvania. I really enjoyed it. The writing was good, the characters interesting, the variety of gameplay was good, the music was good, the graphics were good, etc.

I basically don't have any significant complaints about it, except for the ending. It's a very binary choice between the "good" and "bad" endings, and nothing you do up til that point will affect either of them. So you can save right before making it and load your save to quickly see both endings. The "good" ending was fine, but the "bad" ending was a 15-second cutscene that basically went "yes, that sure is the choice you just made" with no real emotional payoff or seeing any of the consequences of the choice, unlike the good ending. It was lackluster, but since I wanted to get the good ending all along and didn't care about the bad ending, it didn't bother me much.

It also didn't bother me that your choices throughout the game don't really matter, but I mention it here for others' sake. As relatively open-ended as the game is, and as much degree of freedom the game systems and character building allows you to have, don't expect that to carry through to the story. I actually prefer it that way, I liked having a relatively straight-forward experience for a change from all the Fallouts and Mass Effects out there. But others may be disappointed.

i love cyberpunk settings but yikes this game is rough. The story, pixel art, and aesthetic are all superb but my lord the controls/game play are bad, The melee combat is slow, unresponsive, and just unfair for no reason. i really wanted to like this but sadly i'll be dropping this.
